James Evanson is an artist, architect, and furniture designer working between New York and Santa Fe. Evanson’s work is very much in line with the international avant-garde Functional Art movement. He studied at the ArtCenter College of Design in Los Angeles and the Pratt Institute in New York, where he graduated in Architecture. Since his first exhibition at the Art et Industrie Gallery in New York in 1979, his work has been exhibited worldwide. The enormous success of his lamps, including the Lighthouse, made them icons of the 1980s. More recently Evanson has dedicated himself to glass art . Evanson has lectured and has served as a professor at several universities in the United States.
